Why holistic...?

As a holistic nutritional consultant, I believe that healing happens from the inside-out. Everything in our body and beyond is interconnected. If our goal is balance and real change, we cannot address problems in an isolated fashion; we need to look at the whole. Your body is highly intelligent and adapts to whatever environment it's in and it's sending you messages that are important for your health and well-being. It's crucial to understand that symptoms and cravings are not our enemies. If we ignore or cover up this type of communication, we're effectively missing perfect opportunities to learn and to heal.

"The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek." - Joseph Campbell

Diet is often a sensitive topic for people. It's very easy to use foods to cover up underlying feelings and pain. While that's alright, what you are most likely longing is nurture - beyond what food can give to you. Through exploring our relationship with food, we can learn a lot about ourselves. Looking at what we eat, how we eat, and why we aren't not be going for what we know are better choices, poses the question: what's really going on? While quick 'fixes' can help us cope and function, but eventually, we all know, they're not sustainable. Only when we're willing to look beneath the surface at the underlying factors that are creating the problem, do we have a chance for real and sustainable change.

Everyone is different. How wonderful!

There's a hot debate concerning the 'right' way to eat. Many people claim to have found the one and only solution. However, what works for your friend, might not work for you. What the newest fad diet demands might sound good 'in theory', but may not have anything to do with what your body really needs and what your heart truly desires. Central to my work is developing a new level of awareness. While it's important to educate ourselves on wholesome foods in order to make good choices, it's equally crucial to learn to listen to our bodies. As our level of awareness increases, we can begin to see our symptoms and cravings as a friend rather than an enemy that needs to be fought.

FOOD FOR YOUR HEART Compassionate Inquiry

Aside from filling our body with the right nutrients, enzymes, probiotics etc, there's a deeper side to nutrition. How do you nourish your heart? Are you kind to yourself? What do you believe about yourself, others and the world? You might have a sense of underlying influences affecting your state and your health. Subconscious patterns, how we relate to memories from the past, and, stories we've created, can literally make us sick. Either you believe in suffering or you believe in nurture. Belief determines your perspective and your experience. If you have a pull to explore where you're keeping yourself stuck in addictive patterns, and, are open to find a way of moving into a new, nourishing relationship to food and yourself, this kind of session is for you.

Compassionate Inquiry is a psychotherapeutic approach developed by Dr. Gabor Maté that reveals what lies beneath the appearance we present to the world. Through Compassionate Inquiry, the client can recognize the unconscious dynamics that run their lives and how to liberate themselves from them.

In a Compassionate Inquiry session, I work directly with what the client chooses to bring, which could be topics such as emotional eating, eating additions, childhood trauma, feeling stuck, or a recent issue that had a strong impact. During a session, I hold space and bring the client to the present moment rather than focus on the 'story', in this way she/he may see unconscious dynamics that run his/her life. It's an organic process of working with the body's sensations and the client's own seeing and knowing. Compassionate Inquiry sessions offer a safe space for people's emotions and pain while they are being gently guided to witness what is arising in them without identifying with it. While they are being held and seen, they may find flashes of insight and powerful break throughs. There is no agenda to fix anything or reach a certain goal, but rather a compassionate noticing and nurturing being with what is. With the pressures in life, that can easily fall by the way side again; however, it's not about not falling down anymore... in my coaching, I offer support to learn how to get up quickly and gently.

“The purpose of Compassionate Inquiry is to drill down to the core stories people tell themselves – to get them to see what story they are telling themselves unconsciously; what those beliefs are, where they came from; and guide them to the possibility of letting go of those stories, or letting go of the hold those stories have on them … That’s what Compassionate Inquiry is.” - Dr. Gabor Maté

Your conflicts, all the difficult things, the problematic situations in your life are not chance or haphazard. They are actually yours. They are specifically yours, designed specifically for you by a part of you that loves you more than anything else. The part of you that loves you more than anything else has created roadblocks to lead you to yourself. You are not going in the right direction unless there is something pricking you in the side, telling you, “Look here! This way!” That part of you loves you so much that it doesn’t want you to lose the chance. It will go to extreme measures to wake you up, it will make you suffer greatly if you don’t listen. What else can it do? That is its purpose.”
